Join 3rd Reef Divers for one of the most unique dive events on the West Coast—the annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup!

For one day each year, certified recreational divers are allowed to enter Avalon Harbor and help remove trash and debris from the ocean floor. We want to bring the 3rd Reef Divers crew to Catalina Island in 2027, and we would love for you to be part of it!

More Than Just a Dive

The Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup brings together hundreds of divers and topside volunteers for a day of diving, conservation, community, and fun.

During the cleanup, divers work together to recover bottles, cans, lost equipment, and other debris from the harbor. After the dive, participants gather at the Wrigley Stage for an awards ceremony, prizes, and giveaways.

Proceeds from the event benefit:

• The USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber
• The Avalon Rotary Club Foundation
• Casino Dive Park improvement projects

Event Details

Cleanup Date: Saturday, February 20, 2027
Location: Avalon Harbor, Catalina Island
Dive Entry Locations: Green Pier, Step Beach, and Casino Point
Expected Dive Window: Approximately 9:00 AM–11:00 AM
Maximum Depth: 40 feet
Event Hosts: Catalina Divers Supply and the Avalon Rotary Club Foundation

A mandatory safety briefing will take place before divers enter the water. Diving is conducted from shore, and all divers must check in and out through their assigned entry location.

Who Can Participate?

Divers must:

• Be a certified scuba diver
• Bring proof of certification
• Complete the official event registration and required waivers
• Attend the mandatory safety briefing
• Dive with a buddy
• Use open-circuit scuba equipment

Non-divers are welcome too! Topside volunteers are needed to help collect, sort, and transport recovered debris.

Travel With 3rd Reef Divers

We are currently organizing the 3rd Reef Divers group experience. Our final travel package may include:

• Recommended hotel or group lodging
• Ferry information and suggested departure times
• Group transportation details
• Gear and tank rental options
• Dive-buddy coordination
• A group itinerary
• Optional additional Catalina diving or activities

Tentative Travel Dates: Friday, February 19 through Sunday, February 21, 2027

Lodging, transportation, pricing, and the final itinerary will be announced as soon as arrangements are confirmed.

Important Registration Information

Joining the 3rd Reef Divers group does not automatically register you for the official Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup. Every participant will also need to complete the official event registration once it becomes available.

We will help our group stay informed about registration deadlines, required forms, travel arrangements, equipment needs, and event-day instructions.
